Schools to recognize bus drivers during appreciation day

newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Next month local students will be reminded to say “thank you” to all the operators in charge of “makin’ the wheels on the bus go round and round” during School Bus Driver Appreciation Day planned on May 5. The time recognizes the vital role of transporting students safely to and from school each day. According to the Alberta Student Transportation Advisory Council, school bus drivers across the province transport more than 335,000 students everyday. The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education released a short reminder to students on its website Tuesday. “School bus drivers are often the first and last smile that students see at the start and end of each school day,” reads a release. “Caring and kind, school bus drivers play a key role in our lives.” 7-6
Recently I learned that FlixBus buses can be rented for school trips. This was a revelation after our school cancelled an excursion due to transport problems. One of the parents suggested using the flixbus phone number , saying they had already used it. We checked, and indeed, everything was official, with a driver and insurance. In the end, the kids went, and we adults breathed a sigh of relief. It’s convenient that such an option even exists.
