asmith@medicinehatnews.com Aspiring navigators will get the chance to start to hone their skills, thanks to an upcoming map-reading program with the Medicine Hat Interpretive Program. The program is tailored for novices, and park interpreter Mhairi Donnelly assures there’s no need for a compass or GPS unit to learn how to find the right path. “Join an interpreter for a walk round Police Point Park, and learn how to use landscape features to find your way through the park and develop the confidence to participate in our next map-reading challenge on Earth Day,” said Donnelly. “With this skill mastered, you could then build on your newfound ability and participate in some of our other programs such as Geocaching – an outdoor scavenger hunt where you use GPS coordinates to navigate through the landscape.” This program is free to attend, and does not require potential participants to register beforehand; simply show up at the Nature Centre on April 19 at 1 p.m. For more information, those curious are encouraged to visit the Nature Centre, or call the Nature line at 403-529-6225. 7
