Construction will begin next Tuesday on new disc golf courses in the city, thanks to collaboration with MHC Disc Golf Club and Students’ Association of Medicine Hat College.

The 18-hole disc golf course will have nine holes in Kin Coulee Park and nine on Medicine Hat College Campus. The construction will begin April 15 in Kin Coulee and is expected to take three days, with the MHC campus portion to be completed before the end of the month.

“We’re incredibly proud to have collaborated with our community partners to bring this disc golf course to life on campus. It’s a great way for students and community members to stay active, connect with each other and enjoy the outdoors,” said Rebeca Rothfus, executive director of the Students’ Association of Medicine Hat College. This project reflects our commitment to creating a welcoming, wellness-focused campus for everyone.”

Residents are asked to stay clear of shifting work zones when workers are present and obey any posted signage, though the course will be available to play immediately once installation is complete.

This marks the end of a nearly 29-month journey to have this 18-hole course come to fruition, says the city.

The idea was initially planned to be entirely on Medicine Hat Campus, but capacity constraints prevented all 18 holes. As such, the City of Medicine Hat was then approached by the SAMHC in 2024 to propose the idea of a course split between Kin Coulee and MHC, which was approved in September 2024.

“This collaborative initiative is the epitome of the city’s vision within our parks and recreation master plan. Parks and recreation are essential to a high quality of life, community health and well-being. Medicine Hat is stronger when the city, non-profit and public sectors work together to maximize these offerings,” said Jamie McLeod, manager of asset planning and business services with the City of Medicine Hat.

Official course maps for each nine-hole location will be available once construction is complete.
