Brooks RCMP released a public service announcement Wednesday informing the community they have received several calls about an early voting station that has been set up.

After attending the location and speaking with the Chief Returning Officer on site, police can confirm the voting station is a legitimate office of Elections Canada for early voting and there is no cause for concern. Advance voting for the upcoming election begins April 18.

Careless use of a firearm

Three people have been charged with careless use of a firearm after recreationally shooting in the direction of a Fish and Wildlife officer last Sunday.

Officers say they received a call at 2 p.m. requesting assistance from a Fish and Wildlife officer who had a firearm discharged in his direction with multiple bullets coming toward him.

When police attended the scene near Highway 36 they discovered three individuals were recreationally shooting on publicly accessible land, and while doing so, their bullets were ricocheting off a frozen lake and travelling toward the highway.

“RCMP would like to remind the public that obeying firearms laws and practicing appropriate firearm safety is paramount while enjoying recreational shooting,” reads a press release.

No suspects were located within the premises, however the cash register was destroyed.

Security footage reveals three suspects, two males and one female, all wearing hoodies.

A later patrol of local businesses revealed another break-in at the Fairview Plaza Shopping Centre, as police discovered a window at VapouRevolutions had been broken.

No suspects were found while officers cleared the premises.

Police continue their search for the suspects and are asking anyone with information on either of these files to contact the Brooks detachment at 403-362-5535, or anonymously through CrimeStoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477.
