Ballots for the April 28 federal election were set Wednesday after a Monday deadline to finalize nominations.

No new candidates other than those previously announced are registered in Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner, where Conservative Glen Motz is seeking a fourth consecutive election win.

He will face Tom Rooke of the Liberals, Jocelyn Johnson (New Democrat) and Andy Shadrack (Green Party).

However, Jordan Harris, who had been announced as the People’s Party candidate in the riding, did not appear and is no longer listed on the party’s website among 30 other PPC candidates in Alberta’s 37 electoral districts.

Several Liberal and New Democrats were added in the greater southern Alberta region at Monday’s deadline to submit nomination papers, giving them a full-range of candidates in the province.

As well, several alternative party candidates and at least one independent seeking votes in adjacent ridings were also added.

In the Bow River riding, where Conservative candidate David Bexte won a nomination contest this winter, two candidates are representing alternative socially conservative parities.

Aaron Patton represents the United Party of Canada, which advocates a socially conservative platform, and Tom Lipp will run in his third election for the Christian Heritage Party for the riding that includes Brooks and Taber.

Among other newly announced candidates, Marc Slingerland will also represent the Christian Heritage Party in Lethbridge.

In southwest Saskatchewan Marie Rose Lewans will run for a third time as an independent candidate in Swift Current-Grasslands-Kindersley riding, formerly Cypress-Grasslands, after running for the Green Party previously.

Advance voting will take place from Friday, April 18 through Monday, April 21.

Election day is April 28.
