Bow Island emergency extends hours after temporary reduction

Starting Thursday, the Bow Island Emergency Department will be extending its hours following a temporary change.

The department will be open from 7 a.m. every Thursday until 7 a.m. every Monday. Due to the ongoing staffing shortage, they are currently unable to secure regular and consistent coverage during the remainder of the week.

During the temporary closure, nursing staff will remain onsite to provide care for remaining acute care patients and long-term care residents. Admissions to two acute care beds have also been reopened.

AHS is still actively recruiting for positions in the community, and seeking ways to ensure residents can still receive the care they need.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. EMS services are prepared to respond to emergency events and support transfers to neighbouring sites, and those seeking care can access emergency services at the Taber Health Centre or the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available for non-emergency, health-related questions, or visit their general practitioner for non-emergency medical care.
