Registration for parents is open to attend the annual Alberta School Council Spring Symposium, a virtual event planned for the end of April.

The annual conference provides school councils from across the province the opportunity to hear keynote speakers, plus attend breakout sessions and interactive activities themed around building resilience.

The online event will be held over Zoom beginning at 9:30 a.m. April 26 and will wrap up at 3:30 p.m.

The symposium will feature three keynote speakers including Demetrios Nicolaidies, minister of education, Dr. Robyne Janley and Jo Phillips, plus special guest Elder Wilson Bearhead.

Some of the session topics this year include ‘AI: the potential and the peril’ ‘a social media conversation with your kids’ and ‘the power of rising strong after challenges.’

There will also be education updates and networking opportunities woven into the full day of events.

There are several different registration fees, however any parent of a student serving on a school council can attend the online conference for free.

Additionally, schools have to pay one registration fee for all student council members to attend.

The deadline for registration is 1 p.m. on April 14, and late registrations cannot be accepted.

Parents can find an online link to register by visiting the Medicine Hat Public School Division’s website and clicking the ‘Division News’ tab.

Schools are asked to email joni-treen@sd76.ab.ca for more information.
