Local firefighters are once again preparing to spend two nights and three days camping on the roof of Fire Station No. 2 to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy.

This year firefighters across the country are celebrating a 70-year partnership with Muscular Dystrophy Canada for the ‘Fill the Boot’ campaign that raises money to support efforts to combat the neuromuscular disease.

Since 1954, firefighters across the country have raised more than $103 million to support Muscular Dystrophy Canada. Locally, firefighters have been participating in the ‘Fill the Boot’ campaign since 1971.

Last year five members participated in the weekend rooftop campout while volunteers on ground around the station collected donations.

Like the title of the charity campaign suggests, donors can also choose to give a donation directly to the firefighters above by placing it into a boot that is pulled to the roof with a rope.

Local firefighters are also able to accept donations online.

No matter what the weather conditions are like, firefighters will climb the roof of Station No. 2 on April 11 and will only be able to descend on April 13.
