Brooks RCMP have arrested and charged a driver who allegedly assaulted three police officers during a traffic stop near that city Monday morning.

RCMP say an officer observed a vehicle travelling at an excessive speed just before 5:45 a.m. and began pursuing the vehicle, which then abruptly stopped in the middle of the road.

Police say the suspect refused to provide identification and began shouting profanities when officers approached the vehicle.

The lone officer called for backup due to the driver’s uncooperative behaviour. When backup arrived, RCMP say the suspect continued to refuse identification and assaulted three police officers, who then placed the suspect under arrest.

The suspect has been charged with three counts of assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and failing to provide required documents to a peace officer. The suspect is scheduled to appear before court on June 4.

RCMP says no officers were injured during the incident.

Collision investigation

Police are investigating a report of a vehicle colliding with a house in the north end of Brooks last Saturday night.

Officers say the homeowner noticed an exterior wall had been pushed inwards and found tire tracks shortly after midnight.

The damages have been documented and evidence has been collected, however police are still investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to contact RCMP at 403-362-5535.
