Ballots starting to take shape in SW Saskatchewan, southern Alberta

A familiar face will run for the Liberal Party in southwest Saskatchewan in this month’s federal election Swift Current-Grasslands-Kindersley, while a Green Party candidate has been named as well.

Cypress Hills-area rancher William Caton was announced Monday as the Liberal candidate in the riding formerly known as Cypress Hills-Grasslands to face incumbent Jeremy Patzer of the Conservatives.

For Caton, it is his sixth federal election and third party, after running for the Liberals in the district in 2019. He was the Green Party candidate in 2015 and also ran for the Progressive Conservative Party in 2000.

The current Green Party candidate will be North Hunter, according to the party’s website. The health sector worker and doula is based in Weyburn and represented the Greens in Saskatoon-University in 2021.

Bow River ballot

The NDP has announced Luisa Gwin as the party’s nominee in the Bow River Riding. The Chestermere resident works as a construction industry estimator.

Arrowwood ag producer David Bexte won the Conservative nomination in early March after MP Martin Shields announced he would retire.

CPC office open

The campaign office for Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner Conservative Party candidate Glen Motz will officially open Thursday for an open house that evening.

The office, at 3084 Dunmore Road in Medicine Hat will welcome residents from 5-8 p.m.with light refreshments.
