asmith@medicinehatnews.com Today is World Water Day, and in honour of the occasion, Medicine Hat environmentalists are starting up their yearly initiative to keep the city’s green spaces a little brighter. Year five of the Adopt a Pond or Path Initiative starts today, and as such, residents are encouraged to spend the day outside with friends or family, and potentially consider taking a stretch of the natural area around them to keep clean. The goal, said Martha Munz Gue, co-ordinator of the Adopt a Pond or Path initiative in consultation with Grasslands Naturalists, SEAWA and the city’s department of parks and recreation, is to have all of the adopted paths and ponds clean by April 22. There will be a come-and-go event on that date at the Nature Centre in Police Point Park in celebration of Earth Day, with information on the program and a variety of activities. Currently, more than 80 people have adopted a pond or path in Medicine Hat. Those interested in knowing more or potentially picking up an available pond or path are encouraged to reach out to Munz Gue at mmunzgue@telusplanet.com. 7
