A Japanese petroleum firm has invested in a Canada helium company targeting helium-laced nitrogen deposits in southern Saskatchewan and controls exploration areas near Leader.

ENEOS Xplora, formerly known as Nippon Oil and Gas, announced on March 11 that it has invested C$2.7 million in Helium Evolution. That Calgary-based firm has ongoing joint project near Mankato, Sask. with North American Helium, and has outlined Leader area as a future base operating area.

“The world demand for helium has been solid over the last decade and is expected to grow in the long term,” read a release from ENEOS Xplora. “It is a key component used in a wide range of applications, such as semi-conductor manufacturing, MRI machines, and glass fibres production.”

The investment comes by way of ENOS Xplora’s U.S. based subsidiary. The global company reports annual revenue of about C$2 billion annually.
