newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com An annual survey that gathers information about students’ and parents’ school experience and used to help trustees and staff improvise the education system has had its deadline extended to March 28. The Alberta Education Assurance survey is open to students, teachers and parents of students in Grade 4, 7 and 10 across the province. The online survey includes questions about thoughts, feelings and experiences in school and covers a variety of topics including caring, safe learning environments, student learning engagement and parental involvement in education. The annual survey is a requirement of Alberta’s Assurance Framework that gathers school district performance evaluations according to a number of different measures that provide information about how the education system is performing. The survey does not collect personal identifiable information and all responses remain anonymous. Students are able to complete the survey in school while parents and guardians are issued a single-use random access code mailed through Canada Post. This code must be used to access the online survey and helps identify your response as being from a parent or guardian. All participants may opt out of taking the survey at any time or skip any questions they do not wish to answer. “By completing this survey you are helping our local schools and Alberta Education identify areas of strength and areas in need of improvement,” reads an online post from the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education.
