The City of Medicine Hat has hired a new corporate services managing director, it announced Wednesday.
Jilian Campbell joins the city at the end of the month from a similar roll with Strathcona County, a hybrid municipality near Edmonton which is the local government for 75,000 residents of Sherwood Park.
There she was manager of strategic planning and financial co-ordination beginning in 2021, after a long career with the City of Edmonton that saw her rise to become manager of business planning and strategy.
“She brings significant experience in municipal budget planning to our organization, and we look forward to having her on the executive leadership team,” said city manager Ann Mitchell in a release.
Campbell, a chartered professional accountant, will begin work in Medicine Hat on March 31.
“I am honoured to join the City of Medicine Hat and I look forward to collaborating and connecting with the organization to support the community,” Campbell stated in the city release.
The hiring comes about two months after the city announced that previous corporate services head Dennis Egert was no longer in the position.
The former finance general manager had spent six years in the top role after being promoted in 2019.
“We have achieved many great things that will help ensure the community remains sustainable in the future,” Egert wrote to the News following his departure. “We also have a team of dedicated people who serve our residents every day and do their jobs exceptionally well – I want to thank them and honour them.”
With Campbell’s hiring, all four current managing directors (the term for the top official in a city division) have assumed their roles during this term. Public services head Joseph Hutter was hired late last year following the planned retirement of Brian Stauth.
Pat Bohan took over development and infrastructure when the portfolio was recreated in the breakup of the energy and utilities division in 2023, when at the same time Rochelle Pancoast moved from leading the now-defunct strategy and business analysis division to lead energy, environment and land.
