A whole new level of renovating an older house will be discussed at the Monarch Theatre on Thursday night at a meeting of the Medicine Hat Historical Society.

The MacKenzie-Sharland Residence was saved from demolition after the 2013 flood, was designated an Alberta historic resource, and, after complete renovation, now acts as a residence for medical staff that are completing their education in the city.

Malcolm Sissons, who spearheaded that restoration and included the one-time grocery store turned family home into his surrounding housing development, will discuss the project as a feature presentation at the society’s regular March meeting.

That begins at 7 p.m. at the Monarch Theatre on Thursday, March 20.

The presentation will focus on construction methods, challenges and solutions in historical preservation as well as the history of the property.

Admission is free of charge.
