asmith@medicinehatnews.com March 16-22 is Agricultural Safety Week, and in honour of the occasion, Agriculture and Irrigation Minister RJ Sigurdson reminded producers of the value of safe farm and ranch practices. “As farmers and ranchers prepare for the upcoming growing season, it’s important to remain diligent and focused on safety. I encourage you to take the time to renew your commitment to safety, because even one injury is too many,” said Sigurdson. He encouraged producers to come up with a plan prior to every job, and to identify hazards and determine how best to deal with them. This includes developing an emergency plan and practicing it often. Investing in health and safety is an investment in your farm’s future,” said Sigurdson. “Employers, workers and the government all have a role to play in agricultural workplace safety,” said Sigurdson. “Let’s work together to make sure Alberta farmers and ranchers stay safe this growing season.” 7
