Firefighters responded to a three-alarm fire that was contained to a suite on the third floor of the Silver Buckle building just after 5:20 am Sunday, and found one person who was transported to hospital in unknown condition.
Crews from all three city stations were able to extinguish the fire, which appears to have started in the affected tenant’s suite.
According to a social media post from the sports bar, the rest of the building remained unharmed from the blaze, however there is some water and smoke damage.
As a result the Silver Buckle will be closed for the next few days to make necessary repairs.
“There are no words of how to express our deep gratitude to the MFHD who were on the scene quickly and effectively, helping prevent further damage,” reads a statement on social media.
Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire. Both the Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Services and Silver Buckle Sports Bars highlighted the importance of having working smoke alarms.
“Fire and smoke alarms save lives,” states the Silver Buckle.
“Working smoke alarms save lives. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room and on every level of the smoke,” echos Fire Services.
