Bow Island emergency department closes temporarily, will reopen in a week for weekends only

Bow Island Health Centre emergency department will be temporarily closed due to an ongoing personnel shortage.

The closure is from 7 a.m. this morning to 7 a.m. on March 21, and from that point, it will be open will be open weekends from 7 a.m. Fridays to 7 a.m. Mondays, then closed 7 a.m. Mondays through to 7 a.m. Fridays until further notice.

Nurses will be on site to provide care for remaining acute care patients and long-term care residents, but no new acute care admissions will be accepted for the time being.

Alberta Health Services stated it is actively recruiting for positions in the community and working to ensure residents continue to have access to care.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency, and can access emergency services at the Taber Health Centre or the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency, health-related questions, or those requiring non-emergency medical care, can also call their family physician.

AHS says it is “thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff, and would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time.”
