Man accused in grandparent scam likely going to trial this spring

A Calgary man accused of being part of a “grandparent scam” that targeted seniors in Medicine Hat could go to trial this spring.

Rahul Dudhra, 25, was charged in October with fraud over $5,000, theft of $5,000 and extortion as local police said that with the help of ALERT unit investigators they had arrested three men.

On Wednesday, an attorney representing Dudhra told Court of Justice that the defence will elect to move the matter to trial at the provincial court level and that a one-day hearing could be scheduled in May.

That was forwarded to the court management office for scheduling and the date of a trial could be finalized by in coming weeks.
