Redcliff RCMP have arrested a Medicine Hat man and a minor after they say a truck stolen from Redcliff was found near Highway 544, north of Brooks, on March 9.

Police allege the pair approached a rural residence asking for fuel, but when refused, left that truck and took another from a neighbouring property.

Sebasten Yanke, 22, has been charged with theft over $5,000 and made a first appearance at Court of Justice in Medicine Hat on Wednesday. He is also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and, separately, failure to comply with bail conditions. He will remain in custody and the matter next taken up on April 2.

An unnamed 15-year-old suspect has been charged with possession of stolen property.

Cameras suggested

Brooks RCMP recommends that irrigators instal a “trail camera” on their pivots and equipment to help investigate thefts of copper wire and other farm equipment.

The recommendation comes as Mounties in that area look into the disappearance of 200 feet of electrical cable from a pivot near Patricia on March 7.

Trail or wildlife cameras are motion activated and will help authorities establish timelines and potentially identify suspects to aid in investigations, according to a release from the Brooks RCMP detachment.
