@MedicineHatNews Organized crime investigators are planning to release high-level details of a substantial drug bust today after two men accused of narcotics and weapons offences made their first appearance in court on Tuesday, the News has learned. ALERT-Medicine Hat officers have charged two local men following a traffic stop conducted by in Brooks by RCMP officers on Feb. 28, according to court documents. At Court of Justice in Medicine Hat on Tuesday, one man was remanded in custody while he sought to obtain a lawyer, while another was the subject of a bail hearing. That decision was reserved and is expected Friday. Evidence heard during the bail hearing for Abdullah Mela is subject to a publication ban. The 28-year-old man is charged with possessing drugs for the purposes of trafficking, possessing a restricted firearms despite a court prohibition, possessing a loaded firearm and having a restricted firearm in a vehicle. Another man, Omar Farhat, of Medicine Hat, is in custody and charged with three indictable counts of drug trafficking and possession of a restricted weapon. His matters were adjourned until today. 9
