Treeosix Adventure Park receives grant to increase dark sky viewing experience

The province of Saskatchewan has announced it will be investing more than $2 million to support nine tourism projects throughout the province that includes Treeosix Adventure Parks building new rental accommodations within the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park.

Cypress Hills Eco-Adventures in Maple Creek will be provided $250,000 to help fund brand new “dark sky suites” that provide unobstructed views of the night skies through a custom astronomical viewing area.

Back in 2004 the park was designated as a Dark Sky Preserve by Alberta and Saskatchewan park authorities, one of 13 in the country that provide protection and preserve night-sky viewing by reducing or eliminating all forms of light pollution.

Treeosix Adventure Park is also well-known for its zipline adventure in the lodgepole pines, treetop drop and climbing wall.

Funding for the projects will be provided through the Tourism Growth Program that looks to invest in the province’s unique tourism experiences “that will provide local, national and global visitors with opportunities to enjoy Saskatchewan’s distinct landscape and rich culture.”

The program looks to provide small and medium-sized businesses and not-for-profit organizations to develop local tourism experiences by investing $108 million over three years.

Funding also supports Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.

The Ukrainian Museum of Canada, located in Saskatoon, will also receive a $250,000 grant to help the museum develop tourism experience and implement a digital strategy to raise its profile and increase visitors.

Established in 1936, the museum is the oldest Ukrainian museum in North America and houses the largest textile collections along with thousands of other artefacts and artworks.
