asmith@medicinehatnews.com Cypress County is updating its Fire Services Bylaw in an effort to help better serve residents when they need it most. The bylaw oversaw several changes, including removing sections now covered under different bylaws, as well as more comprehensive lists of scenarios where cost recovery would be considered. Most notable of these changes is the removal of the automatic April 1 to Oct 31 fire restriction. Moving forward, Cypress Fire Services is using a data-based decision-making process. This would be used, says fire chief Jason Lintion, to determine what the fire risk is and move the county into restriction or ban based on the present conditions, potentially allowing for fire permits during low-risk periods, such as a wet spring. 6
