Crews complete repairs on power pole in the Flats, all services restored

City power crews completed repairs on Thursday after a tractor trailer knock down a power line near Medalta Avenue the previous day.

About 1,600 residences and businesses were left without electricity for about 90 minutes on Wednesday as crews removed the vehicle and restored power. Again on Thursday, about 800 customers in the areas around Bridge Street, Washington Avenue, Industrial Avenue and Medalta Avenue were disconnected for a time while permanent repairs were underway and completed at about 3 p.m.

The Esplanade will also host a lunch-hour event Tuesday described as a Black History Month Summit of business, civic and non-profit sector leaders.

The theme of the noon to 1:30 p.m. luncheon is “Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations.”

Hatters interested in forming community associations are invited to an information session next week. The event will be held Tuesday, Feb. 25 at the Esplanade’s studio theatre, starting at 6:30 p.m.
