Police arrest trio in string of vehicle thefts

Throughout February the Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit alongside Calgary police have arrested three people in connection to a total of 18 stolen vehicles.

Police say multiple offenders broke into several dealerships within Calgary and six RCMP jurisdictions and stole vehicle keys and vehicles.

So far police have been able to recover 15 of the 18 stolen vehicles and locate 33-year-old Sebastien Robichaud, who has been arrested and charged with several related offences including five counts of break, enter and theft, robbery; criminal flight from police; and assault with a weapon.

Additionally, Robichaud faces 16 counts of failure to comply with probation, four counts of failure to comply with release order and two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Robichad has been identified as the prime suspect in the string of vehicle thefts, however police issued warrants and also arrested 43-year-old Shawn Markwart from Calgary and 31-year-old Ryan Satre, a resident of Winnipeg.

Satre was charged with several offences including possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, fraudulent concealment as well as several provincial driving offences. Satre appeared before courts Wednesday.

Markwart was arrested on an outstanding warrant and has been remanded into custody and appeared before courts Wednesday.

Robichaud has been remanded into custody and will appear before court on March 4.

Calgary police, alongside the RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, Olds and Airdrie RCMP, conducted a search warrant on a rural property in northeast Calgary on Feb. 4.

Police recovered three vehicles as well as two semi trailers, all of which had been reported stolen out of southern Alberta and B.C.

Feb. 13 police received a Ford F-150 in northwest Calgary, stolen from a rural residence near High River. After executing a search warrant police received numerous identity documents determined to have been stolen or fraudulently produced.
