@MedicineHatNews Power was knocked out about 1,600 residences and businesses in the River Flats and N. Railway Street for more than an hour on Wednesday afternoon when a vehicle collided with a power pole. City utility officials said the collision occurred shortly after 2 p.m., and all but five customers were reconnected by 3:30 p.m. Crews were expected to continue working well into the evening. A short power outage is likely to come on Thursday as any final repair work is completed. Warmer weather welcome Southeast Alberta is expected to emerge from an extreme cold weather warning on Thursday as -30C overnight temperatures and -40C windchills move out of the region. The forecasted low overnight into Thursday was noted as -26C by Environment Canada, though the expected daytime high would rise to -5C. Positive temperatures and sunny conditions are predicted on Friday. 8
