Brooks RCMP say they are investigating after finding 36,000 cartons of cigarettes in a tractor trailer last week.

Mounties say that on Feb. 13 they received a tip about the suspicious cargo being delivered to a local business. Officers intercepted the load and found pallets of contraband cigarettes.

Two individuals were arrested and later released without charges, according to a release, though the investigation continues.

Hair salon mischief

Brooks RCMP arrested a 44-year-old male who has been charged with mischief after police were called to a hair salon for a report of a man making inappropriate comments to staff and disturbing customers last Friday.

Police say they located the male, who was subsequently charged and given conditions not to return to the business.

Theft from vehicle

Two additional reports of personal belongings stolen from vehicles have occurred after Brooks RCMP responded to several complaints of thefts from vehicles last week.

The two new calls occurred last Sunday and Monday, and police say several items were taken including wallets, identification, credit cards and gift cards.

Both investigations are ongoing. Police are again reminding residents to lock their vehicles and remove or hide any valuable items.

Community survey

Until March 4, residents are invited to provide their input around police priorities and share their safety concerns through the 2025 Brooks RCMP Community Consultation Survey.

“This is your chance to provide input on setting priorities for the Brooks RCMP in the coming year,” reads a social media post.

The short survey is open to all residents within the Brooks RCMP’s jurisdiction, and contains five questions including what area of policing do you feel should be the No. 1 priority?

Robbery ring

Mounties in Saskatchewan say they have broken up a bank and ATM robbery ring that operated in south and central parts of the province.

The RCMP have laid 64 charges against three people arrested after a search warrant was executed in Biggar, Sask., northeast of Kindersley, on Feb. 5.

They believe the accused conducted a string of three bank robberies and “a string of ATM thefts and attempted thefts” across the province, including Gull Lake and Rosetown, among other locations, between November and Jan. 1, 2025.

A bank robbery in Landis, west of Saskatoon, took place on Nov. 22, and arrests were made by the North Battleford provincial general investigation section, the Sask. RCMP crime reduction team (CRT) and officers from the Biggar detachment.

Charged are Sheena Benoit (also known as Sheena Harrabeck), 36, Joshua Meszaros, 33, and Jeremy Seery, 48.

The three suspects are scheduled to appear in court inNorth Battleford in April.
