newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Graduating students at Monsignor McCoy High School will lace up and hit the ice to battle their teachers and staff during a student-led fundraising hockey game planned Tuesday night at the Kinplex. The school division is inviting the community to come check out the high-energy game and will be collecting $2 donations per ticket to support Mission Mexico, an outreach founded by Catholic in Southern Alberta that raises funding to build schools, housing and support literacy, health care and the development of micro-economic self-help projects. Around 20 students who led the fundraiser will play against staff members. Puck drop is set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kinplex on arena KIN 1, students are encouraged to wear their school colour red. High School Musical Jr. Performing arts students at St. Mary’s School are busy rehearsing for their next performance of Disney’s High School Musical Jr. that will hit the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre stage in March. Based on the popular Disney musical, the performance will follow students of East High on their first day back at school after winter break, and looks into breaking down stereotypes. “The show is filled with positive energy, danceable songs and will have everyone up on their feet,” reads a theatrical promotion for the play. Tickets are currently on sale online at tixx.ca for two public shows on March 7 and March 8. March 7 is an evening performance with curtain drawing at 7 p.m, and on March 8 students will host a matinee performance beginning at 11 a.m. 12
