asmith@medicinehatnews.com Next week, starting on Monday, is Kindness Week, encouraging residents to improve the health and well-being of their fellow Canadians. Made official by a bill passed on June 3, 2021, the week asks for those who observe it to partake in acts of “kindness, volunteering and charitable giving,” according to the Kindness Week Act. There are many organizations in need of support in the city and beyond, which would benefit from a donation, be it of money, effort, or time. The Government of Canada recommends extending that kindness to neighbours and fellow community members as well, be it by helping with yard chores, gifting something homemade, or even sparing a kind word to someone on the street. Showing kindness can lead to reduced stress levels, improved mood and self-esteem and sets an example for others to follow. 6
