Police hosting career virtual information session next week

Residents interested in pursuing a career in police are invited to register for a virtual information session hosted by the Medicine Hat Police Service next Thursday evening.

The session will cover aspects of what is required to serve as a police officer in the Hat, or work as a civic staff member on the force.

The information session is free, however police are asking those interested to register for the session. An online link to register can be easily found on the Medicine Hat Police Service Facebook page along with a QR code.

The session falls prior to the police service’s deadline for applications for its next police recruit training program that will begin this fall.

Chosen applicants will undergo a 24-week training program that includes control tactics, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, situation de-escalation and crisis management.

Cadets will also receive in-class training at Medicine Hat College that includes investigative skills, legal studies and report writing.

The virtual information session begins at 6 p.m. on Feb. 20.
