newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Police are reminding motorists that roads and regional highways remain very icy and are asking those who plan on travelling this weekend to check their vehicles before hitting the roads. Brooks RCMP released the public service announcement Friday, heading into the weekend, that advises motorists to check the tires on vehicles to make sure the tread is at appropriate levels for winter driving conditions. “Without tread on your tires, you may slide on icy roads and lose control of your vehicle,” reads a media release. “Make the investment in a good pair of winter tires as it just may save you and your loved ones’ lives.” Serious Injury Collision Collision Shortly after noon on Thursday first responders attended a collision on Highway 1 and Range Road 150 between a SUV and semi truck, the second collision at that location this week. Police say a westbound SUV was attempting to exit the highway at Range Road 150 and lost control, sliding into a southbound semi-truck and becoming wedged underneath the semi-trailer. The driver, who was the lone occupant of the SUV, was transported to hospital in serious condition. Police say the investigation remains ongoing at this time. Two days prior, on Feb. 4, Brooks RCMP responded to a collision between a semi-truck and pickup truck on Highway 1 and Range Road 150. No serious injuries were reported. 10
