newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Police have charged 43-year-old Christopher Lane and 42-year-old Kerrie Simms with numerous firearm and drug related charges after executing a residential search warrant last Sunday. As a result of a short-term investigation into suspected drug activity, police searched a residence located on the 900 block of Fifth Street SE on Feb. 2, and were able to recover two restricted firearms and several illicit drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine and gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, known as sodium oxybate, or by its street name Liquid X or Easy Lay. Police also seized an undisclosed amount of cash. Both suspects have been arrested and charged with possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm and possession of a weapon obtained by commission of an offence. Lane faces an additional charge of breach of probation. Both suspects have been remanded into custody after attending a Judicial Interim Release bail hearing. Simm will appear before courts Feb. 7, while Lane is scheduled to make a court appearance on Feb. 11.
