Alberta Municipalities has announced a new $1.7-million program to assist communities, industries and corporations seeking to purchase and instal electric vehicle charging stations.

The funding, provided by Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program, will help offset the cost of up to 46 per cent of eligible projects to successful applicants.

“The EVCP puts the purchase and installation of EV charging stations within reach for more organizations across Alberta,” says Tyler Gandam, president of ABMunis.

Federal Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson says more Canadians are switching to EVs every year to save on fuel and vehicle maintenance.

“To support Canadians driving Evs, the Government of Canada is working with not-for-profits like Alberta Municipalities to build reliable and readily available charging options.”

A large list of eligible applicants includes businesses, co-operatives, municipalities and non-profit organizations. The application process began Wednesday and funding will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

All applications will be assessed on their merits and must meet a strict criteria. More information can be found online by visiting abmunis.ca.
