asmith@medicinehatnews.com For those who can’t navigate their way out of a box, to amateur explorers, the Medicine Hat Interpretive Program is looking to teach residents the basics of maps. “This free program is for those who are complete novices to map reading. No compass or GPS unit needed – only your eyes,” said Mhairi Donnelly, assistant chief interpreter. “Join an interpreter for a walk round Police Point Park, and learn how to use landscape features to find your way through the park and develop the confidence to participate in our next map reading challenge on Family Day.” On Feb. 15 from noon to 2 p.m, participants will work with the interpreter to find their way around the park to some of its prominent features, using only a map and their wits. It is the hope that this crash course in navigation will enable residents to take on some of their more map-heavy activities, such as geocaching. Registration is required for this program, and can be done by calling the Nature Centre at 403-529-6225. 6
