Mounties seized eight kilograms of fentanyl after a roadside stop on the Trans-Canada Highway on Tuesday night near Swift Current.

Officers with the Saskatchewan RCMP’s roving traffic unit and provincial highway patrol say that a search of a vehicle turned up the narcotics under the spare tire.

Two Calgary residents are in custody. Swati Narula and Kundardeep Singh, both 28, are both charged with one count of drug trafficking and were set to appear in Swift Current Provincial Court on Wednesday.

Police believe they were travelling to Regina.

Crash near Oyen

Mounties responded to a “serious motor vehicle collision” on Thursday afternoon south of Oyen on Highway 41, though no other information was available at press time.

Traffic was redirected in both north and southbound lanes at the intersection with Secondary Highway 570, five kilometres north of Acadia Valley.

More information is expected to be released Friday.
