In February the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education will be celebrating Inclusive Education Month to promote and raise awareness about inclusive education, highlighting the many roles and learning opportunities students are provided, and posting stories throughout the month on social media.

Throughout the month, the division will highlight the diversity of its schools and the inclusive educational opportunities provided to students to ensure they receive quality education. As well, students, educators and families who contribute to inclusive schools will be acknowledged or recognized.

In a press release, the division says Inclusive Education Month is “profoundly aligned” with Catholic Social Teaching’s framework that makes a point to emphasize human dignity and the importance of community.

“These principals provide a moral and spiritual foundation for creating an educational environment where every student is welcomed, valued and supported,” reads the release. “As Catholic educators and support staff, we are called to embrace inclusive practices and create environments and opportunities where all students can grow into the fullness of who they are called to be.”

During past Inclusive Education Months, Alberta schools have collaborated with the Alberta Association for Community Living to develop an inclusive education post distributed to all schools in the province.

MHCBE is encouraging families and members of the community to follow both its Facebook and Instagram accounts to view more information that will be highlighted throughout the month.
