The whimsical winter fundraising Polar Plunge event for Special Olympics returns to the Hat this February, and registration is now open for those brave enough to take a frozen dip.

The fundraiser, presented by the Law Enforcement Torch Run, allows individuals to jump into freezing cold water during the winter for a good cause.

The event runs on Saturday, Feb. 7, and although it’s too early to forecast weather conditions for the festivities, almanac.ca predicts sunny and cold conditions in the region.

Plungers will have to pay a registration fee of $50 and are encouraged to raise donations from friends, family members, coworkers and local businesses.

“It’s a great way for everyone – individuals, organizations and business – to get involved in support of Special Olympics and show winter who’s boss,” reads a promotional ad for the event.

Adding to the picture-perfect opportunities at the plunge, costumes are strongly encouraged for anyone participating.

Canmore will host a similar event on Friday, Feb. 6, and Lethbridge will host its Polar Plunge on Sunday, Feb. 8.

A time for the event on Feb. 7 has not been released yet, however the event will take place at Athletic Park.

To register for the Polar Plunge visit specialolympics.ab.ca and click the ‘Events” tab.
