@MedicineHatNews BROOKS The City of Brooks will waive late fees on some bi-monthly utility bills that were held up during the postal strike at the end of 2025. City council voted Monday to reverse charges applied on bills issued after Nov. 15, 2024 and received added charges on December 17 and 18. If already paid, the difference will be manually applied as a credit. The process is “expected to take one or two billing cycles to complete for all affected accounts.” Rates increase City council in Brooks also approved rate increases at the January 20 meeting, adding 10 per cent each to water delivery and sewer, as well as 4 per cent to waste and recycling charges. “The rate increases are to recover increased costs in the service areas or planned infrastructure renewal in the future,” according to a memo from administrators. The effect on the typical homeowners bill will be about $9 per month for water, sewer and trash collection. That is down from $10 per month in an original proposal. 10
