@MedicineHatNews Medicine Hat News A U.S. tech firm has acquired a proposal to build a carbon-capture hub at a planned industrial site near Pincher Creek. Gryphon AI will acquire Canadian firm Captus Generation in a friendly takeover and continue work to develop the 850-acre project located 20 kilometres south of Pincher Creek. There, Captus operates the relatively small Drywood natural gas power plant, but has promoted plans to vastly increase firm power capacity along side regulatory work to commission an underground carbon sequestration hub. Captus senior management will be retained by Gryphon, which states that near-term power addition could add 100 megawatts of supply for computing, cryptocurrency processing or artificial intelligence operations. “Gryphon’s investment in Alberta represents a strong vote of confidence in the province’s clean energy future,” says Harry Andersen, Chief Executive Officer of Captus Generation. “We’re looking forward to joining the Gryphon team, which has the necessary expertise and track record to develop digital assets and infrastructure that will take full advantage of the unique opportunity we have put together at Captus.” Wheat Summit Growers of durum wheat will gather in Swift Current next week to discuss challenges and outlook for the crop. The 2025 Durum Summit at the Living Sky Casino on Jan. 30, follows a similar event last year that was arranged by a number of producer organizations and companies involved with the crop. Canada contributes a major share of global durum production, but crop rotations have added canola and pulses to the mix. Presentations will range in topic from transportation, crop disease and pests, genetic advancement, changing weather patterns and sustainability.
