A city bus was caught in deep ruts of ice along Sixth Street on the Southeast Hill and fish-tailed head on into a tree on Tuesday afternoon.

Damage was limited to a broken windshield and damaged front grill and bumper, but nearby residents say its the fourth vehicle in one week to wind up in on boulevards of the main route that leads from Hill Road to Division Ave.

Lev Zohar, a resident of the 300 Block, said three passenger vehicles have wound up on the lawns of his house or neighbours since the middle of last week.

The bus collision occurred near the intersection with Third Avenue on the road that has Alexandra Middle School to the east and a grocery store and daycare to the east.

“I’m concerned for the kids,” he told the News as a heavy tow truck arrived to extract the transit vehicle at about 4 p.m.

“I’m not sure what more can be done – you can only plow so much – but it’s a safety issue.”

Zohar also said he doesn’t believe the other mishaps were reported to police as they resulted in no damage to property or vehicles.

Medicine Hat police and Medicine Hat transit were expected to release more information about the accident late Tuesday or Wednesday.

As well on Monday, Canada Post community mailbox on Sixth Ave. was also knocked over despite being placed facing the sidewalk on a boulevard between two large trees.
