@MedicineHatNews The Department of National Defence has awarded contract to design a new a $98-million facility to house Canada’s Electronic Warfare Regiment at CFB Kingston. Area MP Mark Gerretsen made the announcement Monday at the location in eastern Ontario. The proposed two-storey, 72,000 square-foot facility would amalgamate existing facilities, classrooms and planning facilities of the new regiment, denoted as 21 Electronic Warfare Regt. It provides tactical and intelligence support to the Canadian Armed Forces. The facility will be design by a Kingston architectural firm, could will add about 150 positions to the base’s workforce, if it is built as planned by 2028. Last week the News learned that the Defence Ministry has also launched a request for proposals exercise towards designing replacement laboratory facilities at CFB Suffield, near Medicine Hat. That process is expected to close in March. 9
