With temperatures expected to plummet over the weekend, the City of Medicine Hat reminds residents of their commitment to aid those left out in the cold.

“With demands for local shelter access expected to meet or exceed capacity, a plan is in place to offer immediate support to augment local community services if needed,” said the City of Medicine Hat. There are a series of short-term solutions in place while a permanent shelter location is still being searched for, a list of which can be seen online at mhchs.ca/i-need-help.

Temperatures are forecasted to reach lows of -29C over the weekend, with highs of -19° on Saturday and -22C on Sunday. With these weather conditions in mind, the City is reminding residents to be careful when heading outdoors.

“If you are spending extended time outside, dress with warm, insulating layers close to the body and wind and waterproof layers on the outside. If you are travelling, be sure to carry a cold weather kit in your vehicle, and keep your cell phone charged,” said the City. “Reach out to Alberta Health Services for more information about staying safe in extreme cold.”

Residents are encouraged to visit the Big Marble Go Centre, Library, Medicine Hat Mall or City Hall to warm up during regular hours.
