Now-rare marijuana trafficking bust made by RCMP near Swift Current

Mounties in southwest Saskatchewan seized 1,550 pounds of illegal marijuana found in a cargo van they believe was headed for Quebec on Jan. 9, authorities in that province reported Tuesday.

The van was stopped on the Trans-Canada near Swift Current, and investigators found the cannabis in more than 50 moving boxes.

John Kupr, 53, of Port Moody, B.C., is under arrest and charged with possession of stolen property less than $5,000 and possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Cannabis Act.

He will appear in Swift Current Provincial Court on April 16.
