newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com On Monday a series of free fitness classes, including bootcamps, yoga and mindfulness classes, opened for students and staff at Medicine Hat College to encourage healthy living and staying active in the new year. Every day the college will host several fitness classes beginning just after 7 a.m. until 5 p.m., and will include options like ‘Bodyweight Burnout,’ as well as yoga flow classes, bootcamps, Barre and Zumba. Most classes will be held in the gymnasium, fitness centre and Classroom H131. A full fitness schedule can be accessed on the college’s Facebook page. Free sessions run until April 1 with a break during February’s reading week. Senior Fitness The Unison at Veiner Centre is hosting all-level fitness classes hosted by Marla Howard that will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays and include strength training, cardio and mobility. Howard has more than 40 years experience as a fitness instructor and will tailor to all levels of fitness. The sessions include music and positive vibes. The Veiner Centre says along with physical benefits, a healthy lifestyle boosts mood, energy, sleep and overall well-being and is a “great way to connect with others.” If you are feeling a little tense the Veiner Centre is also hosting Yin Yoga sessions on Fridays at the Strathcona Centre. Yin Yoga focuses on targeting the connective tissues including the fascia, ligaments, tendons, joints and bones rather than just muscles. “These easy practices will greatly improve your health and body,” states an online post. Visit the Veiner Centre’s website for more information on how to register for these programs. 14
