Another top city official has moved on, as corporate services managing director Dennis Egert is leaving his position, Medicine Hat city staff were told on Friday.
Egert, the top official overseeing finance, treasury and related departments, had spent 10 years with the city, and most recently helped guide the new two-year budget process to completion last month.
Finance director Lola Barta will become the acting managing director, according the message sent by city manager Ann Mitchell and forwarded to the News by several employees.
No other official statement was provided as the city’s policy is to not comment on personnel matters.
Egert becomes the second top administrator in the last three months to leave the city, along with the long-planned retirement of public services head Brian Stauth last fall.
The city’s chief financial officer was the only managing director-level bureaucrat remaining from the time of the 2021 election. Former corporate and public services head Brian Mastel and energy commissioner Brad Maynes both left the city for the private sector.
Egert joined the city as finance manager in 2014, then become top division executive in 2019. He previously worked for the Monarch Corporation and Dow Chemicals.
During his time with the city, Egert expanded the city’s treasury department and revised several reserve policies that contributed to growth in the city’s reserves, which now site near $800 million in value.
