Medicine Hat College is getting ready to host its annual Community Job Fair that will include more than 50 organizations looking to hire summer and permanent career positions, as well as internship opportunities.

Each winter the annual college job fair attracts hundreds of students, as well as members of the community who are looking for employment opportunities within the city and surrounding communities, as well as to network with dozens of potential employers.

“This event, focused on the community, is designed to offer something for everyone in attendance,” says Shelly Drefs, career services assistant at the Career Centre. “Exhibitors that have registered so far are quite diverse, representing a lot of different industries, and many will have jobs available for members of our community of students and all job seekers in Medicine Hat and area.”

Organizers recommended attendees who are hoping to fund employment to come prepared to take part in on-the-spot interviews and speak with as many exhibitors as possible for a better chance to land an interview post-event.

“Some employers will be accepting resumes at the event while others will be talking about their hiring process and will direct applicants to apply on their websites,” explains Drefs. “Jobseekers can also talk to career experts about services available, such as resume and interview support, job search strategies and career decision making in general.”

The Community Job Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 29 at Medicine Hat College, with most exhibits set up in Centennial Hall. MHC is still accepting applications for exhibitors; interested employers can sign up online by visiting the college’s website.
