Pair of Medicine Hat men charged following commercial B&E that left ‘significant damage’

Medicine Hat police have arrested and charged two men in connection to a break and enter that left a business located in the 700 block of Third Street SE with significant damage and property losses.

A 42-year-old local man was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property, as well as break and enter and theft following an investigation that began in the early morning hours on Tuesday.

In addition, a 31-year-old man also from Medicine Hat was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. Police say they were able to return some of the recovered stolen property to the rightful owner.

No details were released on the amount of damage caused.

The 42-year-old man has been scheduled to appear in court on March 18, while the 31-year-old-man will go before the courts March 25.

Brooks RCMP find Meth during traffic stop

Wednesday afternoon Brooks RCMP discovered more than 18 grams of methamphetamine along with two grams of cocaine and other drug paraphernalia after executing a traffic stop on a vehicle with a burned-out licence plate light.

Police developed reasonable grounds to believe both the driver and passenger were involved in illicit activity as they approached the vehicle. Following an arrest of the driver and passenger, officers conducted a search that led to the discovery of the illegal substances.

Police say the driver was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear before the courts March 5.

Speeding

On Jan. 7, Brooks RCMP issued five speeding tickets within a two-hour timeframe while traffic members were set up in the Eastbrook area focusing on catching speeders in school zones.

“Speeding in this area remains a significant issue, and with the currently slippery road conditions, it poses an even greater risk to pedestrians and children.” states an online release from RCMP.
