Chamber will welcome province in New Year

Medicine Hat will welcome business leaders from across the province in 2025 as the local chamber of commerce hosts the Alberta Chamber’s policy conference in May.

That is a special event to mark the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Medicine Hat Board of Trade, which was the predecessor of the business group that is know known as the Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce.

The annual general meeting and plenary session for the Alberta Chambers of Commerce will be held May 29 to 31 in the Hat and could attract about 150 delegates.

“We have some exciting things in the works,” said executive director Lisa Dressler, who states the actual anniversary lands on May 28.

“There will be some celebrations and then the conference kicks off (the following day). So, we’re looking forward to having business leaders from across the province in our region at that time to help celebrate business and look for strategies to support them.”

“It gives us the ability to showcase our region and the assets that we have. We’ll invite businesses to join in as well and really make our region shine.”

Some promotion began in late 2024 with the launch of a new website, and Dressler said the group is also planning for the coming spring trade show in Medicine Hat and a fall trade show in Brooks.

2025 noteworthy local anniversaries

Other notable anniversaries in the 2025, include the 20th year of operation of the Esplanade, the 10th for Co-op Place, the 135th anniversary of the founding of the first general hospital in Medicine Hat, and 140 years of the Medicine Hat News.
