A local mother is left with only the clothes on her back following a devastating house fire Dec. 10 on the Black & White Trail that occurred while the family was away but tragically killed the families beloved pets and left them nothing.
A GiveSendGo fundraiser has been established to support Mandi Matheson and her family as they did not have insurance on the property that was lost to the blaze. The online fundraiser is a similar format to GoFundMe.
“Mandi and her family are the kind of neighbours everyone wishes for,” says Shelbie, organizer of the online fundraiser. “Always dependable, generous and kind.”
According to the fundraiser Mandi is a familiar face within the region over the years as she has driven a school bus for Seven Persons School, served customers at Eagle Butte Liquor Store in Dunmore, helped at the Southland bus shop in the industrial area and worked with the Medicine Hat Feeding Co. on busy auction days.
“This heartbreaking event has left Mandi with nothing but the clothes on her back as there was no insurance, and while material things can eventually be replaced over time, the loss is profound.” says Shelbie. “As a community, we now have an opportunity to rally around her the way she has always been for us.”
Online donations will go directly toward securing the family temporary housing, replacing essential items and eventually helping the family rebuild their life.
A trust account has been established at ATB to accept donations by cheque or cash titled ‘Shelbie-In Trust-Matheson.’
As well, e-transfers can be made to mahousefund2024@gmail.com.
To donate online go to GiveSendGo.com and search for Mandi Matheson.
“Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. If you are able, please consider contributing to this fundraiser and sharing it with your network,” says Shelbie.
So far the fundraiser has raised more than $1,400 of its goal of $50,000.
