A Medicine Hat man charged with attempting to kill four city police officers after gunshots were fired during a standoff this summer is fit to stand trial and now has an attorney.

Provincial Court of Justice at Medicine Hat heard in September that Cole Scory, 30, had been held at a Calgary psychiatric facility since he was arrested at an apartment complex in the city’s southwest on July 27.

Crown prosecutors stated Tuesday that a court-ordered assessment found him fit to stand trail on the charges.

Defence attorney Darcy Shurtz also came on the record for the accused, replacing a court-appointed observer who was commissioned to oversee proceedings in Scory’s interests as a friend of the court.

The matter was adjourned to Jan. 16 as the defence seeks disclosure in the case.
